A proposal pending before the local board of education of School District No. 1, to make Hebrew an official class study in Tucson’s high schools, was approved here today by the Synagogue Council of Tucson.
Rabbi Albert Bilgray teaches a course in Hebrew at the University of Arizona. That course was instituted in 1949 when students petitioned for the study of Hebrew. The proposal for teaching Hebrew is a live language in the high schools here envisages the conduct of such courses without religious materials.
