Work was reported here today to have started on the razing of the Mellah in the city of Tunis as part of a major modernization of the city.
The project will leave many Jews in the Mellah homeless. The Tunisian Government has pledged it will resettle such homeless Jews in modern structures but has not made any specific decisions on details of such resettlement.
