A broadcast over the Arab radio service here of a strongly anti-Zionist anti-Jewish poem was officially disclaimed today on behalf of the government. A government spokesman declared that “this poem was transmitted by error and without authorization by the radio station’s director.”
“The Tunisian Government,” said the spokesman, “strongly deplores this broadcast, and disciplinary measures are being taken against those responsible.” The offensive poem had been broadcast on a so-called “literary” program and was the work of the Lebanese poet Nazar Kabani. The broadcast had caused grave concern in the Jewish community here and was immediately called to the attention of Roger Seydoux, French High Commissioner for Tunisia.
