The Turkish government, acceding to the request of the British embassy in Ankara, has agreed to allow 870 Jewish children from Hungary and Rumania to pass through Turkey en route to Palestine, it was learned here today. Permission for the children to immigrate into Palestine from Hungary and Rumania, which are enemy countries, was secured from the Palestine government through the efforts of the Jewish Agency.
The youthful refugees will travel from here to Palestine on board a Turkish steamer. Four hundred of them are members of the Youth Aliyah, while the others are children of parents to whom Palestine immigration certificates have been assigned but who are unable to obtain visas because of the ban on persons residing in enemy countries.
