Five Israeli fishermen, who were arrested last year on charges of fishing in Turkish waters, and sentenced to five-year prison terms, were released today under a new amnesty law. They will leave on Thursday for Israel after spending 14 months in a Turkish jail.
They were sentenced to one-year Jail terms last December and appealed. The appeals court not only rejected their appeal but raised the sentences. They were transferred last week to Ankara Jail to start serving the longer terms. Their release followed publication this morning of the amnesty law in the Official Gazette.
