The Turkish Government is embarked on a broad campaign against ultra-nationalist and theocratie political forces which has uncovered the activities of a number of Turkey’s leading anti-Semites.
The campaign was initiated after an unsuccessful attack on the life of A.E. Yalman, noted Turkish newspaperman and descendant of a family of Turkish Jews which was converted to Mohammedanism, who has often criticized reactionary and ultra-religious political movement. As a result of the investigation many members of the illegal Isramic Democratic Party and the “Great East” organization which aims at the establishment of a Moslem theocracy in this country, have been arrested and several newspapers have been closed.
Among the anti-Semites picked up during the government inquiry was N. F. Kisakurck, editor of an Istanbul daily which was shut down by the government. He served an eight-month sentence H. F. Ustaogln, who advocated the elimination of Jews and converted Moslems from public life, has been expelled from the ruling Democratic Party. The authorities are also engaged in building a case against C. R. Atilhan, outstanding Turkish anti-Semite and leader of the illegal Islamic Democratic Party.
