The Jews of Turkey will be able to stand for election in the Turkish municipalities for the first time in the forthcoming elections as a result of the establishment of the Liberal Republican party, the opposition party. The candidacy of Jews is made possible because the leader of the new party, Fethi Bey, is determined to officially put into effect the existing but never properly executed equality of minorities.
In Smyrna there are four Jewish candidates on the opposition list, Isaac Mois, Menahem Adato, Isaac Gabay and Joseph Estrugo. In Adrianople there are five Jewish candidates while in Constantinople the list includes three Jews, one a woman.
