Dr. Tewfik R. Aras, new Turkish member of the United Nations Conciliation Commission for Palestine, has expressed the opinion here that Israel’s agreement to consider the problem of the Arab states and the Jewish state’s willingness to pay compensation for property abandoned by the Palestine Arabs will greatly assist the members of the Commission in their attempts to bring peace to the Middle East.

Dr. Aras expressed the hope that the Arab states will in turn demonstrate a desire to improve relations with Israel. He also said that he did not believe that the oft-threatened ”second round” of warfare would be loosed in the Middle East. He asserted that more time was needed before peace pacts could be negotiated, but added that time has “taught” many things to both parties.
