The Turkish Minister to Israel, Safrullah Esin, has prosented his credentials to President Dr. Chaim Weizmann at the President’s residence at Rehovoth. Emphasizing that he considers it his main duty to foster friendly relations between his country and the Jewish state, the Turkish diplomat recalled that Turkey was always friendly to the Jews and that at the time of their expulsion from Spain they were welcomed by the Turkish Government.
Replying, President Weizmann said that he welcomes the establishment of close relations between Turkey and Israel. The people of Israel, he declared, remember that the beginning of their national home was made during the Turkish rule over Palestine, when the Turkish Government extended aid. Foreign Minister Mosho Sharett was present at the ceremony, at which the Turkish national anthom was played by an Israel military band.
