Turkish Prime Minister Adnan Menderes has re-affirmed that his Democratic Party and the government which it controls will adhere to the principles of equal rights to all citizens, regardless of race or religion.
Addressing an annual party congress at Gaziantop, the Prime Minister warned reactionaries who attempt to abridge minority rights that the government will not stand for their activities, and he pledged that his party would expel any member who espouses such views. “Our party,” he stressed, “recognizes equal and full rights for all Turkish citizens without discrimination as to race or religion.” He also asserted that the government holds “our educational and cultural institutions responsible for the fulfillment of this national ideal.”
