Turkish Press Starts Agitation Against Jews

The Jewish population of Turkey is greatly disturbed on account of the unfriendly agitation started by the Turkish press recently. The press urges the Government to prevent the influx of a large Jewish population into Constantinople, stating at the same time that this should be accomplished without any restrictive legislative measures.

A very painful impression was created among the leading Jewish circles by the order of the government suspending the only Jewish daily, “Journale D’Oriente”, published in French, for alleged “progressive tendencies.” The editor of the paper, Mr. Albert Carasso, previously a member of the Turkish Parliament, has been threatened with expulsion from the country. The ”Journale D’Oriente” was the most important foreign-language newspaper in Turkey.
