A Turkish vessel carrying 535 immigrants, including 170 children, to Israel is in danger and has sent out an SOS, Reuters reported to-day from Haifa. The report added that a rescue ship had been dispatched from Haifa to answer the distress call.
The Turkish vessel, which gave her position as off the Cyprus coast, said she was seaworthy and had a limited water supply left. If the craft is not repairable, the rescue vessel will bring the immigrants to Israel. It is understood, Reuters said, that the Turkish Jews had left without notifying the Jewish Agency.
