American Jews who suffered damages under the Turkish regime in Palestine will now receive compensation as the result of an agreement the United States will sign with Turkey within the next ten days, it was announced here today.
Turkey will pay American claimants damages to the extent of $1,300,000 for losses inflicted by the Turkish army in Palestine during the World War, the agreement provides.
It is estimated that American-Jewish citizens will receive $750,000 in settlement of their claims against the war-time Turkish government.
CLAIMS DATE FROM WAR
The claims date from the World War and are primarily for damages suffered by American citizens through acts of the Turkish military forces who destroyed forests and uprooted fruit trees and vines in the Jewish colonies. Much of the damage could not even be excused on the ground of military necessity.
