Governors of twenty states joined yesterday in a plea to Americans of all faiths for help in the rescue of 1,500,000 Jewish survivors of Nazism in Europe who are “homeless, sick and helpless,” Specifically, they asked for support of the nation-wide $100,000,000 campaign of the United Jewish Appeal for Refugees, Overseas Needs and Palestine.
The governors who supported the appeal were Thomas E. Dewey, New York; Walter Edge, New Jersey; Edward Martin, Pennsylvania; Dwight II. Green, Illinois; Frank J. Lausche, Ohio; Clarence W. Meadows, West Virginia; Harry F. Kelly, Michigan; Lester C. Hunt, Wyoming; Ellis Arnall, Georgia; Millard F. Caldwell, Florida; Dwight Griswold Nebraska; R. Gregg Cherry, North Carolina; Earl Snell, Oregon; Sidney P. Osborn, Arizona, Thomas L. Bailey, Mississippi; Ralph F. Gates, Indiana; Ben Laney, Arkansas; M.Q. Sharpe, South Dakota; Sam O. Ford, Montana; and John J. Dempsey, New Mexico.
