Plans for close cooperation with Canadian Jewish organizations on recently announced Canadian Government plans to liberalize and expedite admission of Jewish migrants from overseas trouble spots were adopted at a two-day overseas staff conference here of the United Hias Service, executive director James P. Rice reported today.
The migration experts discussed resettlement problems for Jews, particularly family reunion for families from Eastern Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Cuba with members in North and South America, Australia and Western Europe.
Also discussed was the possible effect on Hias operations of passage of the United States immigration law changes proposed by President Kennedy, which would eliminate the national origins quota system in present American law. Top officials of the Joint Distribution Committee and ORT took part in the deliberations.
