A two-hour “warning strike” of civil servants broke out this morning throughout the country in protest against irregular payment of salaries. A similar strike broke out simultaneously at the Haifa port paralyzing for two hours the work of customs officials as well as regular work in the harbor.
The strike was unauthorized by the Civil Servants Association. Dr. Shlomo Joseph Burg, Minister of Posts, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. He said he was informed to this effect by the Association. He expects the Association to take steps to punish those responsible for the interruption of the work. The central committee of the Histadruth, Israel’s Federation of Labor, similarly refused to authorize the strike.
