Two Irish cultural festivals canceled sponsorship by Israel’s Foreign Ministry to protest the war in Lebanon. The Irish Film Institute refused funding for a Friday screening of “Walk on Water,” a film by Israeli director Eytan Fox, in the Dublin Lesbian and Gay Film Festival. Meanwhile, the Dun Laoghaire Festival of World Cultures rejected a donation of travel funding for Israeli musician Avshalom Farjun, who is scheduled to perform Aug. 26 at the four-day festival.
