The Como High Court has sentenced two Italians, Giovanni Cornaggia and Edoardo Piuri, to life imprisonment and a 20-year term, respectively, for having robbed and murdered a Jewish refugee at Canto in 1944.
They were also convicted of having attempted to kill the refugee’s wife. Believing both their victims to be dead, the murderers buried them in a nearby wood. The wife was only injured and managed to crawl out of the shallow grave and reach the Canto police station.
