The Congress for Jewish Culture awarded two literary prizes of $500 each to the poet Joseph Kerler and the poetess Rachel Baumwohl. Both writers, renowned in Soviet Yiddish literature, recently left the Soviet Union to settle in Israel. Kerler received the award for his new book, “Dos Gezang Zwishn Tsayn” (Tel Aviv, 1971), and Miss Baumwohl for her contribution to Yiddish poetry over a period of four decades. The celebration honoring both poets took place in Tel Aviv. Kerler will be honored in New York on Dec, 12 at the annual banquet of the Congress for Jewish Culture. He will address the Jewish Labor Committee’s 1971 biennial convention Saturday night.
