The towns of Brest, famous for the Russian-German treaty of Brest-Litovsk, and Terespol, as well as surrounding districts, have been completely submerged by the overflowing of the rivers Bug and Muchowietz. It is practically impossible to send aid into the stricken regions, and the population is trying to find shelter on the roofs of the higher houses. Many lives have been lost by drowning. It is as yet impossible to estimate the damage, which is believed to be tremendous.
