Two Jews have been elected to the new Amsterdam city council. Both of them are Socialists. They are Dr. A. de Roos, who heads the city Department of Education, and Dr. R. Vanderbergh, head of the Department of Economic Affairs.
In the last council before the war, four of the aldermen were Jewish. The city’s Jewish population at that time was 120,000; the present population is 12,000.
