Two persons were killed and several were injured, two of them seriously, by a bomb explosion this morning in the entrance of a house in Netanya. Police cordoned off the area as they searched for those responsible for the blast. It was the fourth incident in what authorities believe to be increasing terrorist activities in protest against Egyptian President Anwar Sadatï¿??s peace initiatives.
Yesterday, a small bomb was found in a plastic kit by two Bedouins on a bus en route from Beersheba to Shderot in the Negev. Police began an immediate investigation. In two other incidents, a bomb exploded Charistmas eve in Bethlehem and Hamdi Kadi, a Palestinian official on the West Bank employed by the Israeli military government, was fatally shot Monday While on his way to work.
Todayï¿??s Bombing occurred at 6:30 a.m. when people were on their way to work or to the nearby central market for early shopping. One of the persons killed was a 70-year-old man from Kfar Yona who was on his way to the market. The other was a 52-year-old recent immigrant who was on his way to work at a diamond polishing plant. The explosion also caused property damage in the vicinity.
Israeli security issued a warning to the population to be alert to terrorist attempts in the aftermath of Sadatï¿??s peace moves and urged that people be on the outlook for suspicious looking parcels or packages. Meanwhile, the extremist Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed responsibility for the Netanya bombing in protest against Premier Menachem Beginï¿??s Middle East peace plan.
