Two Jews were among the more than fifty persons shot in the skirmish last Friday between police and picketing truck drivers who are out on strike. Neither was seriously hurt although both are still confined to hospitals. The men are Ben Rubin, shot in the legs, and Simon Barach, injured in the legs and shoulders. Barach is technically under arrest and a detective is stationed at his bed in General Hospital guarding him.
Other Jews who have taken active parts in the controversy between truck operators and drivers are Sam J. Levy, attorney for the Employers’ Advisory Council, consisting of 166 employers, and Irving Green, defense counsel in police court for arrested pickets. Albert Goldman of Chicago is a member of the strikers’ legal staff in an advisory position.
