Two More Soviet Jews Given Death Sentences; Accused of ‘economic Crimes’

Two more Soviet citizens with names that seem Jewish–Kunyansky and Melamud–have been sentenced to death after a trial in Odessa for alleged “economic crimes, ” Moscow dispatches here reported today. The first names of the men, as customary in Russian reports, were not given.

The two apparent Jews were tried with 21 others on accusations that they participated in a black market ring that sold 100,000 rubles worth (about $110, 000) of women’s pullovers made by a factory in Ukrainia. The report appeared in Ukryanska Pravda, of Kiev, the official organ of the Communist Party in the Ukraine. In addition to ordering the two Jews shot, the Odessa court ruled that all their property be confiscated.
