The tenth annual Judah L. Magnes scholarships at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem have been awarded to Touma Samir, an Arab medical student, and Salman Falah, a Druze graduate student. The recipients were announced here today by James Marshall, president of the Magnes Foundation, the donor of the scholarships.
The scholarships which are named for the first president of the Hebrew University are given to Arab or Druze students for notable scholastic attainment. Dr. Magnes, a noted American rabbi, was president of the University from its inception in 1925 until his death in 1948. Mr. Marshall is a former president of the New York City Board of Education and was for many years a vice-president of the American Friends of the Hebrew University.
