A West Berlin court sentenced today two former Nazi police officials to prison terms for the murder of 300 Jews in Zhitomir in the Ukraine in 1942.
Fritz Huelsduenker was given three and a half years and Fritz Knop was sentenced to seven years. Huelsduenker testified in his own defense that he had no alternative but to act as he had done. He said while he deplored the Nazi killings, he could not have helped the victims. The prosecution had demanded life sentences for both.
