THE JEWISH COMMUNITY AT SPEYER, GERMANY, IS CELEBRATING THE HUNDRED ANNIVERSARY OF ITS SYNAGOGUE. A SPECIAL CENTENARY SERVICE WAS TO BE HELD IN THE SYNAGOGUE ON THE FIRST DAY OF CHANUKAH. THE FIRST DOCUMENTARY EVIDENCE OF THE EXISTENCE OF A SYNAGOGUE IN SPEYER GOES BACK TO 1096. ACCORDING TO HISTORICAL EVIDENCE, JEWS FIRST SETTLED IN SPEYER LONG BEFORE THAT DATE.

THE JEWISH COMMUNITY OF LIEGNITZ IS CELEBRATING THE 125TH ANNIVERSARY OF ITS EXISTING. THE SYNAGOGUE IN LIEGNITZ IS 90 YEARS OLD.
