Two pro-Israel measures were attached to the U.N. reform act passed by the U.S. House of Representatives. The act, which passed last week and which recommends funding cuts if the United Nations fails to adopt accountability reforms, also would expand the Western European and Others Group at the United Nations to afford Israel permanent membership with full rights and privileges, said Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), who authored the pro-Israel measures. The other pro-Israel measure would withhold funds commensurate with the cost of running offices “focused on the Palestinian agenda” until such offices are eliminated or consolidated into other U.N. groups.
