Dr. Israel Zinberg, noted Jewish historian, and Dr. Reuben Rubinstein, editor and prominent Jewish leader of Lithuania, have died in a Russian internment camp, it was reported here today by a well-known Jewish personality arriving from Russia.
Dr. Zinberg, who was seventy years old, was arrested by the Soviet authorities several years ago. He is the author of a ten-volume work on the history of Jewish literature. Efforts to secure his release had been made by Jewish literary groups in America for the past three years. Dr. Rubinstein, the 52-year old editor of the Jewish daily newspaper, Yiddish Stimme, in Kaunas, was arrested as a Zionist leader by the Soviet authorities immediately after the occupation of Kaunas by the Red Army in 1939. It was reported four months ago from Moscow that he had been released and was safe in Tashkent.
