In pursuance of its general program of organization activities under which regional conferences for the strengthening of Conservative Judaism in America are to take place in different parts of the country, the Committee of One Thousand of the United Synagogue of America is arranging for two such conferences which will be held Sunday, January 25. One of them will be representative of Maryland, the District of Columbia and Virginia and will hold its sessions in Baltimore. The other will represent congregations, brotherhoods and sisterhoods in Long Island and will hold its sessions at the Jamaica Jewish Center in Jamaica.
The Committee of One Thousand is headed by A. B. Cohen of Scranton and Philadelphia. Its aim is to stimulate a nation-wide movement for the strengthening of synagogues and Jewish religious schools, particularly in the small communities. One of the principal aims of the regional conferences is to bring together representatives of larger and smaller communities with a view to working out practical methods of cooperation between the two.
