TWO SESSIONS TO DISCUSS REORGANIZATION OF PHILANTHROPIC AID TO ISRAEL
Two major sessions will be devoted to the reorganization of American philanthropic aid in Israel. Dewey D. Stone, president of the Jewish Agency for Israel. Inc., and Sol Satinsky, CJFWF vice-president, will be the principal speakers at the first session. A second session will be devoted to questions and answers and general discussion.
Prier to the formal opening of the Assembly, the Large City Budgeting Conference will hold pre-Assembly sessions general sessions and joint budget review sessions with representatives of various national agencies.
The findings of a four-year study to determine whether fundamental changes should be made in the pattern of Jewish communal services for patients with long-term illnesses will be presented at a special session on Thursday. Summarizing the key points of the 15 reports comprising the study–the most intensive national survey ever made of Jewish services for the chronically ill–will be Dr. Franz Goldmann, Professor of Medical Care Emeritus, Harvard School of Public Health, director of the study.
Dr. Goldmann will pinpoint the basic issues that must be resolved in the near future if the long-term patient and the disabled aged are to receive adequate care. He will cover such areas as: the function of homes for the aged in the future, the role of the general hospital in serving the chronically ill, the expansion and improvement of home care programs, the best methods of financing expanded and improved health services, and the coordination of health services in the interests of the ill and infirm.
DELEGATES TO TAKE UP PROBLEMS OF JEWISH EDUCATION IN U.S.A.
The health study was financed by a four-year grant from the United States Public Health Service and was conducted under the auspices of the CJFWF Health Planning Committee. The committee includes over 50 welfare and communal leaders and medical personnel.
The General Assembly is the major annual meeting of Jewish communal leaders representing 216 federations, welfare funds and community councils, which comprise the Council, of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds. As the governing body of the Council, the general Assembly will review programs and activities in 1960 and will define major objectives and formulate policies for 1961.
In addition to the sessions on health and welfare services, there will be other sessions, both general and workshops, on other phases of communal activity: community organization. problems of Jewish education, problems of campaigning, women’s communal service. developing campaign leadership, training professional personnel and other related topics.
