Sofia’s Municipal Badge of Honor has been presented to two Jews, Dr. Iossif Astroukov and Mrs. Renata Natan, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Bulgarian Communist Party’s Sofia branch. Dr. Astroukov, a journalist, is president of the Social and Cultural Organization of Bulgarian Jews. Both recipients are veteran members of the Communist movement.
Many Jewish personalities participated in a recent meeting here of the seventh Congress of the Bulgarian National Front. They included Dr. Astroukov who is a member of the presidium, and Emil Mayer Aladjemov, Eshoua Menahem Dekalo and Isidor Nissimov Solomonov who are members of the resolutions committee. Dr. Astroukov and Ruben Avramov were elected to the National Council. There are 6000 Jews in Bulgaria out of a population of 8.3 million.
