Soviet authorities have turned down two appeals for amnesty for Sylva Zalmanson Kuznetsov, who is serving a 10-year prison term after being sentenced at the first Leningrad hijacking trial of Dec. 1970, the Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry reported today. Both appeals were made in-the past few weeks by friends in the Soviet Union as well as by fellow prisoners, the SSSJ reported. The first appeal was turned down on the grounds that she was a political prisoner. The second appeal protested this classification, claiming she was a prisoner of conscience, the SSSJ said.
