Plans to stimulate completion of spring drives in behalf of the United Jewish Appeal before the end of May were voted here yesterday at a special East Coast regional U.J.A. conference attended by 150 Jewish leaders from seven seaboard states.
Dr. Joseph J. Schwartz, executive vice-chairman of the U.J.A., who addressed the conference at the Plaza Hotel here , reported that 1,100 communities were currently conducting drives in behalf of the U.J.A. He said that funds are desperately needed to move tens of thousands of Iraqi Jews before the May 31 deadline and that 100,000 Jews must be brought to Israel from other lands before the end of July. The leaders attending the conference came from cities in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Eastern Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Virginia.
