Rabbi Herbert A. Friedman, executive vice-chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, departed last night from New York International Airport for three weeks of consultations in Europe and Israel with the heads of refugee assistance bodies that are supported through the UJA nationwide campaign. His three-week overseas mission is preparatory to the next phase of the UJA’s year long 1956 drive.

Rabbi Friedman will begin his consultations in Paris at the European headquarters of the American Joint Distribution Committee with officials of the welfare organization, and will then visit a number of other countries for meetings with leaders of Jewish communities and members of the JDC’s overseas staff. His consultations in Israel will open first in Jerusalem with leaders of the Israel Government and the Jewish Agency and will be followed by visits to many of the settlements for immigrants established during the past year with help from the UJA.
