In connection with the designation of Dr. Joseph J. Schwartz as the new chief executive officer of the Israel Bond Organization, the UJA today issued a statement–signed by Edward M. M. Warburg, president, and William Rosenwald, general chairman–lauding him for the “magnificent contribution” which he made in almost four and a half years as executive head of the national United Jewish Appeal.
The statement said that Rabbi Herbert A. Friedman of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, will succeed Dr. Schwartz on June 1 as executive vice-chairman of the United Jewish Appeal. At the annual national conference of the United Jewish Appeal held in December, 1954 inaugurating the 1955 campaign, it was announced that Dr. Schwartz intended to retire from the office of executive vice-chairman this year and at that time Rabbi Friedman was named as his successor.
