Eight nationally known Jewish leaders will be honored at the National Rescue Conference of the United Jewish Appeal, which will be held here next week-end, William Rosenwald, general chairman of the UJA announced today. The eight men will be honored for their efforts in the UJA’s $100, 000, 000 Emergency Rescue Fund and regular 1957 UJA campaign and for their efforts in the current drive to raise $50, 000, 000 in cash on pledges already made to this years twin drive.
The eight men who will receive awards include: Philip Lown of Boston, and Samuel Rothberg of Peoria, who are serving as national chairmen in the current drive to raise $50, 000, 000 in cash on this year’s pledges; Max Block, of Seattle, Barney Medintz, of Atlanta, Martin Nadelman, of Houston, Bernard Sampson, of Milwaukee, and Joseph Shane, of Los Angeles, who all are serving as co-chairmen of the Cash-For-Rescue drive.
Albert A. Levin, who is serving in the current Emergency Rescue Fund and regular 1957 campaigns as chairman for regions, will receive a special citation for his strenuous efforts in behalf of this year’s Appeal. The Rescue Conference which will draw community leaders from every part of the country, comes as the culmination of the current nationwide $50, 000, 000 “Cash-For-Rescue” drive.
