The United Jewish Appeal’s 1954 campaign will be launched on September 1, a special four-month drive aimed at raising at least $25,000,000 in cash, Dr. Joseph J. Schwartz and Morris Berinstein, executive vice-chairman and national campaign chairman, respectively, of the UJA, announced at a press conference here today.
The UJA leaders asserted that Israel can become invulnerable to Arab attack if it can be helped to capitalize on the productive powers of its recent immigrants and on the economic gains it has made in the past few years. They will return to the United States after a whirlwind five-day visit during which they conferred with Premier Moshe Sharett, Finance Minister Levi Eshkol and Jewish Agency leaders on problems facing the UJA campaign.
