The United Jewish Appeal announced today that in commemoration of the Allied victory in Europe ten years ago it will honor a select group of military and civilian figures who in the post-war years helped tens of thousands of Hitler’s victims to survive, recover their health and resume new lives in Israel, the United States and other democratic lands.
William Rosenwald, general chairman of the UJA, said that citation of this select group will take the form of a special Humanitarian Award to each to be made at a national conference in Washington, June 4 and 5. The two-day conference, Mr. Rosenwald added, will also commemorate the UJA’s decade of post-war accomplishments in behalf of World War II displaced person, Iron Curtain escapees and distressed Jews in Moslem countries. In addition to these commemorative ceremonies, the conference will signal the half-way mark in a current 60-day effort by the Appeal for the raising of an urgently needed multi-million dollar cash fund.
