The United Jewish Appeal today announced that an extraordinary national conference will be held in Chicago at the end of May to map further steps by American Jewry for the rescue of Jews from Arab lands and countries behind the Iron Curtain. More than 1,000 representatives of Jewish communities from 40 states are expected to attend the parley which will open on May 26 at the Palmer House.
The meeting, which will last two days, is being called by the United Jewish Appeal for the purpose of focusing attention on the pressing need for additional resources with which to speed and implement immigration and settlement programs in Israel. Speakers at the conference will include outstanding Israeli leaders.
A special East Coast Leaders Conference of the U.J.A. to consider the impending suspension of all Jewish emigration from Iraq to Israel and to map plans for expediting the air transfer of thousands of Iraqi Jews will be held on May 2, at the Savoy-Plaza Hotel in New York City. The meeting will be attended by more than 250 Jewish leaders of communities in seven seaboard states.
