The United Jewish Appeal’s 1953 campaign in the United States will net some $75,000,000 as compared to $70,000,000 last year, Ellahu Dobkin, member of the Jewish Agency executive, reported today to a meeting of the executive.
Mr. Dobkin estimated that of the total, Israeli programs will benefit to the extent of $60,000,000. Eleven million dollars will be spent on the Joint Distribution Committee’s Malben program for handicapped, aged and ill immigrants and $49,000,000 will be allocated to the Jewish Agency’s programs for immigration, colonization, resettlement, etc.
Berl Locker, Agency co-chairman, reported on the prospects of the Australian fund-raising campaign for Israel and spoke at length on the problems facing Australian Jews. He also reported on his recent trips to New Zealand and India.
