The United Nations Mixed Armistice Commission today found Jordan responsible for acts of aggression against Israel on May 25, when three Israeli villages in the Northern Negev were raided in a coordinated attack by forces from Jordan. The meeting of the Israel-Jordan armistice unit was conducted by UN representative Col. Bennett de Ridder, who has been accused in Israeli circles of being partial to Jordan.
The commission also issued a warning to the Jordan authorities to take steps to prevent a recurrence of such acts of aggression. On the other hand, the commission ruined against Israel in another complaint brought by Jordan.
Before the meeting was formally opened, the members of the unit discussed measures designed to ease the tension along the Israel-Jordan border and the Israeli proposal for resumption of the meeting of local commanders from both sides to act in specific cases. The Jordanian representatives asked for 48 hours to consult Amman and promised a reply by the end of that period.
