The U.N. General Assembly today approved an Arab proposal that its agenda be enlarged to include an item urging international cooperation “for the prevention of immigration which is likely to disturb friendly relations between nations.”

The United States and the Soviet Union were among the members of the 14-nation Steering Committee who earlier in the day voted their approval of the proposal which is aimed at checking Jewish immigration to Palestine. France and Poland were among the states which abstained from voting. Only New Zealand voted against the proposal.

It will now be debated in Committee Three, which deals with social and humanitarian matters, where a recommendation as to what action the Assembly should take will be made.
