The social committee of the U.N. Economic and Social Council adopted a resolution today to send a draft international covenant on human rights to the General Assembly for eventual return, after Assembly discussion, to the Human Rights Commission for re-drafting.
The resolution asked the Assembly to determine whether the system of implementation written into the covenant by the Human Rights Commission is adequate or not. Jewish groups maintain that it is not. The committee’s resolution must now be taken up by the Council as a whole.
