Acting Secretary-General U Thant is in touch with a number of world organizations as well as various governments in regard to racial manifestations like the recent outbreaks of anti-Semitic incidents in Argentina and Uruguay, he stated here today.
He made that assertion in reply to a question during a general news conference, when he was asked about a note he had sent to member governments two months ago, calling their attention to the fact that the next General Assembly is pledged to debate a resolution concerned with “manifestations of racial and national and religious intolerance.”
“I have received communications on this subject from a number of states,” he said. However, he said he did not “remember whether these countries (Argentine and Uruguay) responded to the appeal” for comments on the general issue of racial bias, which is on the agenda of the next Assembly.
