United Nations Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold last night named Dr. Ralph J. Bunche, his under secretary without portfolio, and Dr. Francisco Urrutia, his personal representative, to mediate the deadlock between Israel and Jordan in the Mt. Scopus area.
Dr. Urrutia, who negotiated an agreement between the parties several months ago, has been in Jerusalem for over a week attempting to removing obstacles to its implementation Dr. Bunche is currently on a speaking tour in the United States. Dr. Bunche won the Nobel Peace Prize for his negotiation of armistice pacts between Israel and the Arab states following the 1948 war.
