U.N. Council Approves Creation of Office of High Commissioner for Refugees

The U.N. Economic and Social Council adjourned its summer session here, after adopting by 9 to 0, with 6 abstentions, a resolution approving creation of the office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, to succed the International Refugee Organization.

The resolution also asks member states to help the High Commissioner in carrying out his duties of promoting the resettlement of refugees.
