A demand that the United Nations Economic and Social Council take action to facilitate the return to the Jewish community of Jewish war orphans who found refuge in non-Jewish homes during the war was made here by Lady Reading, Leader of the British section of the World Jewish Congress. She spoke at the closing session of the general council of the International Union for Child Welfare.
On behalf of the Union, Lady Mountbatten awarded a Croix d’Honneur and a citation to Miriam Warburg, general secretary of the Youth Aliyah Committee of Britain. The award was made in recognition of the outstanding service of the late Henrietta Szold in behalf of child welfare.
