The United Nations must give “immediate practical implementation” to its decision to create a Jewish state in Palestine, otherwise this plan is “a mere scrap of paper,” it was declared at a press conference here today by Rabbi Isaac M. Lewin of Jeruselem, chairman of the world executive of Agudas Israel and president of the Agudas Israel of Palestine.
Rabbi Lewin demanded that the special five-man U.N. Implementation Commission come to Palestine immediately to determine how best to mitigete the “very serious and complicated” situation that has arisen. He charged that lower-ranking British officers are “effectively helping” Arab bands in their program of violence. These Arabs, he said, are mostly imported hoodlums from neighboring countries, with instructions from the Mufti to provoke the Palestinian Arabs to a general aprising.
