U.N. Expert to Advise Israel Government on Mineral Problems

John R. Welch, an engineer of the Burean of Mines, Department of the Interior, has left for Israel on a two-year Point Four assignment for the Technical Cooperation Administration to serve as technical advisor to the Government of Israel on mineral resources problems.

Mr. Welch, who has had wide experience in the minerals field in the United States and abroad, will assist in appraising the present and future possibilities for the development of Israel’s mineral resources. During his assignment, Mr. Welch will work with the United States director of technical cooperation in Israel.

Mr. Welch served from 1950 until early last summer with a geological survey as a mine production and development engineer in Tanganyika, Africa. He worked as a mining engineer with the Chile Exploration Company in Chile in 1938-41, and was district engineer for the Board of Economic Warfare in the State of Ba###, Brazil, in 1943.
